Are Your Tech Habits Hurting Your Grades?

Many teachers can agree that cell phones and other technology such as media players like iPods and MP3 players are hurting the grades of their students.

Cell phones especially can cause distractions for students. Whether it's texting, surfing the web, or listening to music, students are glued to their phones. These actions lead to them not paying attention in class. In turn they miss the lessons that the teachers are providing. Many times the homework that is given to students each day, is based on the information presented in the lesson. When students have no clue what they were taught because they were texting, it results in them being unaware of how to do their homework.

From personal experience, the homework that is given,  usually provides the grounds for exam questions. For example, my Algebra II and Trig teacher makes our tests based on review questions and/or homework questions that she has given us previously. When the technology today distracts students from learning and participating in class, the outcome and consequences are the damaged grades.

  1. Very true. But with moderation, I think it's all good. Plus, internet can sometimes help you out. But, it provides some serious procrastination.

  2. I agree. For me personally, if I know that I can do my research or project anytime because of the internet, I tend to do it at the last minute.
